What's New

Regional Director, Jim Beck, made a tremendous difference in the lives of countless students and mentors through his devotion and dedication to FIRST Robotics. We are deeply saddened by his passing last weekend. Jim’s efforts helped make our team what it is today. Generations of students have found a passion for STEM because of his endeavors. Jim was a lifeline in every aspect-- in 2007, he saved 971 from a lack of funds, he acted as a mentor to mentors of our team, and started regional competitions with hopes that students find their passions in FIRST.

As we head out for US First Championships Houston, we’d like to take a moment to thank all the sponsors, mentors, families and team members that have made this an amazing season for our team.

We won our first regional at the first inaugural San Francisco Regional held at St. Ignatius College Prep just a few weeks ago along with our alliance members Team 254, The Cheesy Poofs, from Bellarmine and Team 4990, Gryphon Robotics from Crystal Springs Uplands School in Hillsborough. We also took home the Creativity Award!

The game is afoot!

The 2017 First STEAMworks FRC Challenge has been released. For more information, check out the US First website page here for the challenge and the youtube page here for all the kickoff videos. Full STEAM ahead!

Calendar:

- Feb 21: Tuesday, Robot is bagged

971 is looking forward to getting Geoffrey, our 2017 Stronghold robot back on the playing field to compete with teams from up and down the west coast.

This weekend, September 24th and 25th, we will be competing at Chezy Champs, a local off season event at Bellarmine College Prep.

We will be one of the exhibitors at the 2017 Mountain View Technology Showcase.

There are currently 25 Mountain View Technology companies who will be exhibitors.  The showcase takes place on Thursday, August 11th from 11am to 2pm at the Mountain View civic plaza on Castro Street.

There will be lots to see as well as food trucks there to get lunch at.

Join us on Sunday, June 5th from 1-5pm for an open house in our lab at MVHS.

We were regional finalists at SVR and are now working hard to get ready for the Championship event in St. Louis.

We will be competing on the Hopper division at the Championship. There are some other good teams on that field including 1678, Citrus Circuits from Davis CA, so there should be some exciting matches.

We had a successful weekend in Davis and are looking to competing again soon.  On April 8th and 9th, we will be at the San Jose State Event Center at the Silicon Valley FIRST Robotics Regional.

(FIRST stands for For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology)

The team will be leaving this Wednesday to head for Davis.

The competition will be held in the UC Davis ARC Pavilion March 23rd-26th.

A detailed schedule as well as other event information can be found here.

The 2016 season has begun! On January 9th, 37 students and 30 mentors and parents joined us for the season kickoff.

The game this year is entitled Stronghold and has a castle theme. Teams need to cross four out of five barriers twice each to breach their opponents defenses and shoot “boulders” into an opponent’s castle to weaken it in order to capture it at the end of the match.
