November 9 - 11, we headed to the 2017 MadTown Throwdown a great event in Madera where we compete running the previous season’s competition robot, our practice robot and a third robot. The students designed and built the third robot over the summer. This year, the third robot, Nemo, focused on being quick, scoring gears and hanging.
Over 40 students traveled with parents and mentors to Madera to compete along with some great teams. All of our drive teams did well. The third robot, 8971, was even on the winning alliance. 971, the competition robot, was on the second place alliance and 9971, the practice robot, made it to the semifinals! This was a great showing for all of the new drive teams. In addition, without the awesome scouting by our scouting team, we never would have placed as well as we did.
Everyone worked well together to make this a fun and successful event for our team. Preparing for this competition is an incredible opportunity for the new leadership and members to practice for the upcoming season solving real problems and meeting real deadlines. We ended our time in Madera helping teardown the FIRST STEAMWORKS field for the last time this season and headed home, counting the days until the new challenge FIRST POWER UP coming this January!
Thank you to all the sponsors, mentors, parents and team members who made this off-season event a such a great experience.
