We were the 6th ranked alliance captain and Newton Division Finalists at the 2014 World Championships in St. Louis, picking Team 341, Miss Daisy; Team 1983, Skunkworks Robotics; and Team 3147, Munster Horsepower. We lost in the finals to the 1st seeded Team 1678, the Citruis Circuits (with whom we won Sacramento); Team 1114, Simbotics; Team 1640, sab-BOT-tage; and Team 5136. They then went on to beat the Galileo Division Champions and become World Finalists, losing to Team 254, the Cheesy Poofs (with whom we won Silicon Valley); Team 469, Las Guerillas; Team 2848; and Team 74. We would like to especially congratulate Team 27 RUSH, the Chairman's Award winner and FIRST Hall of Fame Inductee for 2014. The Championship Chairman's Award is the highest award in FIRST, given for a team who "best represents a model for other teams to emulate and best embodies the purpose and goals of FIRST."
On our first day of Qualification matches, we had a bit of bad luck and went 2-2 , losing one match because our autonomous mode went crazy and another because one of our alliance partners died due to a loose wire on their cRIO (the main computer on the robot). For all of Friday and the one qualification match we had on Saturday, we went 6-0, seeding 9th in the entire division. During alliance selections, we ended up captain of the 6th seeded alliances because the three previous captains had picked within the top 8. We beat the number 3 seeded alliance (which included team 846, the Funky Monkeys, from Lynbrook) in the Quarterfinals and advanced to the semifinals, where we took three matches to beat the number 7 alliance (who had just beat the number 2 alliance; we lost the second match of the series) and then lost in the finals.
We would like to thank all of our sponsors, mentors, parents, and students for their hard work and support for the entire team throughout the entire season.
