CalGames Champions

The winning alliance at CalGames 2012

CalGames Champions

Last Saturday, we competed at the CalGames off-season event, run by the WRRF and hosted by team 100, the Wildhats. After a tough set of elimination matches, we, with the help of teams 254, the Cheesy Poofs, and 766, the Menlo-Atherton Bears, won the competition. This alliance also happens to be the same alliance with which we won the Silicon Valley Regional last spring. The finalists, team 1678, the Citrus Circuits (who we won the Sacramento Regional with), team 1671, the Buchanan Bird Brains, and team 100, the Wildhats (team 100 also hosted the competition) all did a great job, giving us a run for our money in the last couple matches. We would also like to thank all our great mentors and sponsors who support us for making it possible for us to participate in this sort of event at a highly competitive level, and we thank the WRRF and team 100 for organizing and hosting CalGames 2012.

During the competition, we all had a great time, although we did run into a few technical difficulties at times. We also had a new scouting team (scouting is the act of observing matches to watch for which robots are doing best, so that we know who to chose when we select our alliance), who are working on gaining experience at our off-season events before the main competitions in the spring (the previous scouting leads graduated).

Madera

The MadTown throwdown, another off-season event, is coming up soon on November 9th and 10th. We attended for the first time last year, where we fielded two robots (which meant we were basically treated as two separate teams when it came to seeding and match scheduling; we even played against ourselves in the semifinals), and we will be doing the same thing this year. Last year, one robot was on the Finalist alliance and the other on a semi-finalist alliance; we plan to use one robot to continue training experienced drivers and the other robot to get new members experience driving the robot. Expect more information to come out as we approach the date. To get the most up-to-date information on everything, be sure that you are signed up for the team elist.
